It's been a while since I turned this shape, and I think I want to make more of them because I find them really elegant. Sissi was turned from wood I got from a tree that fell in a forest close to Dresden.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMy favorite part of her is the irregular shape. There is a knot where a branch once grew, and the dark grain spreads out from it like a wave across the surface. The opening itself isn't quite round because of it either, it pulls in and flattens out right at that spot. While the vessel was drying, the biggest change in shape happened right there. Wood behaves differently around knots, and anywhere else the fibres are packed differently. It just doesn't dry the same way as clean, straight timber.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOh, and there is a small crack by the opening. It was already there when I had her on the lathe, but instead of turning that part off I decided to leave it, because I love cracks. I put in a couple of stitches to keep it from splitting further, and I think it looks great.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAlso, check out the colour. There are quite a few shades of oak in this piece. It almost looks like I used different finishes to get them, but I didn't. Už je to nějaký čas, co jsem soustružil tenhle tvar, a myslím, že jich chci udělat víc, protože mi přijdou opravdu elegantní. Sissi jsem vysoustružil ze dřeva ze stromu, který spadl v lese poblíž Drážďan.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNejvíc se mi na ní líbí nepravidelný tvar. Je tam suk, kde kdysi rostla větev, a tmavá kresba se od něj po povrchu rozlévá jako vlna. Kvůli němu není ani otvor úplně kulatý, zrovna v tom místě se zatahuje a zplošťuje. Když nádoba schla, největší změna tvaru se stala právě tam. Dřevo se chová jinak kolem suků a všude tam, kde jsou vlákna uložená jinak. Prostě neschne stejně jako čisté, rovné řezivo.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA ještě něco: u otvoru je malá prasklina. Byla tam už, když jsem nádobu měl na soustruhu, ale místo abych tu část odsoustružil, nechal jsem ji, protože praskliny miluju. Přidal jsem pár stehů, aby dál nepraskala, a myslím, že vypadá skvěle.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePodívejte se taky na barvu. Je tam docela dost odstínů dubu. Skoro to vypadá, jako bych použil různé povrchové úpravy, ale nepoužil.
