LYDIA – Charred Red Oak Wood Turned Vessel
( 33 cm wide, 9 cm high)

Lydia was turned from red oak, from the tree that fell in a forest close to Dresden during a storm. She came from the offcut of a much bigger vessel. Once I cut the finished vessel off the lathe, there was still a big piece of wood attached to the faceplate, and Lydia was turned from that piece. These are somehow my favourite pieces, the ones made from offcuts. They were kind of saved, because they could easily have ended up in the fireplace (which I don't have), but instead they become something beautiful and unique.

The outside is charred and wire brushed, while the inside is only treated with tung oil. My favourite features? Definitely the stitches, and the "natural" rim. By natural, I mean this is how the log was cut with the chainsaw, so you can see the path the saw took through the wood. Rough and beautiful.

Rozhodně stehy a taky "přirozený" okraj. Drsná a krásná.
