KATHARINA – Charred Red Oak Wood Turned Vessel

(23 cm wide, 20.5 cm high)

Katharina is a hand turned vessel made from red oak. The tree came down during a storm in a forest close to Dresden, and I turned Katharina from one of the logs I got from this tree. After turning, she sat on the shelf for a couple of months to dry. Then I charred the surface and wire brushed it to bring out the grain. The finish is tung oil.

(23 cm na šířku, 20,5 cm na výšku)

Katharina je ručně soustružená nádoba z červeného dubu. Strom padl při bouři v lese poblíž Drážďan a Katharinu jsem vysoustružil z jednoho ze špalků, které jsem z tohoto stromu dostal. Po soustružení stála několik měsíců na polici, aby dřevo dobře uschlo. Potom jsem povrch opálil a vykartáčoval drátěným kartáčem, aby vynikla kresba dřeva. Povrch je ošetřený tungovým olejem.
