Something you like so much that you want to keep making it intentionally. Aleksandra is that kind of piece. I wouldn't have made her this way, because my mind was set on a different sketch, a different idea of what she'd become.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eShe was turned from red oak, from the tree that fell in a forest close to Dresden. When I took her off the lathe, she was a moon jar with a narrow opening and really delicate walls, thin and lightweight. I let her dry and forgot just how thin those walls were. When it came time to finish her, I decided on flames. I wanted to make another one of my black vessels, charred and wire brushed like the others.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhen I started charring her, the wall near the opening collapsed. It burned straight through. My first thought was, what a mistake, what a disaster. But when I looked at the piece up close, I saw how good it could actually be, so I removed about a third of the top to make it work. I didn't go any further with the flames. I liked her this way, just touched by fire, not fully blackened by it.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAnd here's the thing: I loved the shape so much that I turned another one the following week. So now there is Aleksandra and her twin sister, Iris. Very similar to each other, but one was born from an accident, and the other from that accident. Něco, co se vám líbí tak moc, že to chcete začít dělat schválně. Aleksandra je přesně takový kus. Takhle bych ji nikdy neudělal, protože jsem měl v hlavě úplně jinou skicu, jinou představu, čím se stane.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eVysoustružil jsem ji z červeného dubu, ze stromu, který spadl v lese poblíž Drážďan. Když jsem ji sundal ze soustruhu, byla to uzavřená nádoba s úzkým otvorem a opravdu jemnými stěnami, tenkými a lehkými. Nechal jsem ji uschnout a zapomněl jsem, jak tenké ty stěny vlastně jsou. Když přišlo na finální úpravu, rozhodl jsem se pro plameny. Chtěl jsem udělat další z mých černých nádob, opálenou a vykartáčovanou drátěným kartáčem jako ty ostatní.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eKdyž jsem ji začal opalovat, stěna blízko otvoru se propadla. Prohořela skrz naskrz. První, co mě napadlo, bylo: jaká chyba, jaká katastrofa. Ale když jsem se na ten kus podíval zblízka, viděl jsem, jak dobře by mohl vypadat a tak jsem odstranil asi třetinu horní části. Dál jsem s plameny nepokračoval. Líbila se mi taková, jaká byla, jen dotčená ohněm, ne celá zčernalá.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA tady je to hlavní: ten tvar se mi líbil tak moc, že jsem další takovou vysoustružil hned následující týden. Takže teď existuje Aleksandra a její dvojče Iris. Velmi podobné jedna druhé, ale jedna vznikla z nehody a druhá z té nehody vznikla schválně.
