YNEZ walnut. (32 cm wide x 8.5 cm tall)
This bowl was turned from walnut that came from a tree my arborist friend had cared for over many years in a client’s garden. When the tree began to decline and eventually had to be taken down, he mentioned to the owner that he had a friend who works with wood. She generously offered me a couple of pieces.
Later, when she saw some of the finished pieces, she was so delighted that she purchased one herself.
This particular bowl is beautifully balanced, with thin walls and an elegant, flowing form. My favorite detail is a set of three small, dark dots along one side—marks left by branches that once grew from this part of the trunk. They give the bowl a quiet rhythm and a subtle sense of the tree’s life. While not overly fragile, it’s light in the hand.

Tato mísa byla vyrobená z ořechového dřeva, které pochází ze stromu, o který se můj kamarád, arborista, několik let staral v zahradě svého klienta. Když strom začal chátrat a nakonec musel být pokácen, zmínil majitelce, že má kamaráda, který pracuje se dřevem. Ta mi štědře nabídla několik kusů.
Později, když viděla některé hotové mísy, byla natolik nadšená, že si jednu z nich koupila.
Tato konkrétní mísa je krásně vyvážená, s tenkými stěnami a elegantním, plynulým tvarem. Mým nejoblíbenějším detailem je sada tří malých tmavých teček — stopy po větvích, které z tohoto místa kmene kdysi vyrůstaly.
