This beautiful large bowl was turned from green walnut that I got from a friend who is an arborist. The wood came from a client’s garden, where two large walnut trees once stood. She wanted to let more sunlight into the space and decided to remove one of the trees, keeping the larger of the two. I turned the bowl while the wood was still green, allowing it to dry slowly and settle into its natural shape. Once it was fully dried and the final form revealed itself, I noticed a crack near the pith. To prevent it from spreading, I stitched it with copper wire.

Tato krásná velká mísa byla vytočena z čerstvě pokáceného ořechového dřeva, které jsem získal od kamaráda arboristy. Dřevo pochází ze zahrady jeho klientky. Na zahradě měla dva velké ořešáky, ale do zahrady chtěla vpustit více slunce, a tak se rozhodla jeden strom pokácet a ponechat si ten větší. Mísu jsem vytočil, když bylo dřevo ještě čerstvé, a nechal ji pomalu vysychat, aby mohla získat svůj přirozený tvar. Kousek od jádra byla prasklina a abych zamezil jejímu zvětšení, použil jsem měděný drát a zašil ji.
