Another piece that was turned from a massive tree given to me by my father-in-law. There are pieces that you fall in love with on first sight and there are the ones that you slowly build your bond with until you really identify with them. JESS belong to the second category. When I cut her off the lathe I wasn’t sure about her. She was then “hibernating” in the basement (by hibernating I mean drying) and I almost forgot about her. When I took her out to check if the wood is dried and ready for the finish I was very pleased with the form. It took me a while to decide how to approach the finish and she was the last one I started to work on in a batch of bowls and hollow forms that I intended to finish. When I put the first coat of oil on her I knew I love her. The wood has a beautiful grain. There are maps on her created by spalting and she really managed to get close to my hearth. So here is Jess….the one I doubted/the one I wasn’t sure about.

Další nádoba vytvořená z masivního buku, který jsem dostal od táty mé partnerky. Jsou mísy/nádoby, do kterých se zamiluji na první pohled a pak ty, kde si k nim pomalu vytvářím pouto. JESS patří do druhé kategorie. Když jsem ji sundal ze soustruhu nemohl jsem si moc ujasnit, jestli jsem s ní spokojený nebo ne. Pak jsem ji dal schnout do sklepa a téměř na ni zapomněl. Když jsem ji pak přesunul do studia, tak jsem si uvědomil, že mě tvarově velmi baví. Byla poslední z mís a dutých nádob, které jsem měl připravené na dokončení, do které jsem se pustil, protože jsem se nemohl rozhodnout, jak k ní přistoupit. Když dostala první vrstvu oleje, tak jsem věděl, že si mě opravdu získala. Dřevo má nádhernou kresbu, která je obohacená o černé linie, které způsobila přítomnost houby ve kmenu stromu. Tak tedy tohle je JESS…ta o které jsem pochyboval..
