Locally sourced wood? I think this wood is really true to this description. My arborist friend called me one day and said he is cutting down a maple tree in the park just few hundred meters away from my studio. So I grabbed my hand trolley and headed to the park. I collected 4 pieces and within 20 minutes I had them store in my studio. I have turned 3 similar pieces from this batch of wood. They look like sisters - not same but you wouldn’t doubt they are related to each other. . They just look amazing together. The maple wood never disappoints me. It’s so full of colors - filled with dark unpredictable lines. You could spend hours trying to memorise them all.
The contrast between dark wood of the pith and sap wood is beautiful. The bark was so sturdy and didn’t fell off even though the walls of these 3 vessels are turned really thin.

Myslím, že o javoru, ze kterého je Drea vysoustružená, opravdu můžeme mluvit jako o lokálním dřevu. Jednoho dne mi zavolal kamarád arborista, že v Riegrovych sadech, necelých 300 metrů od mého studia, kácí javor. Tak jsem si vzal rudl a vyrazil pro materiál. Vybral jsem si 4 kousky a během 20 minut jsem měl vše uloženo ve studiu. Z této nové várky dřeva jsem vysoustružil 3 velmi podobné nádoby. Jsou jako sestry. Nejsou úplně stejné, ale ani na chvíli by jste nezapochybovali, že jsou to sourozenci.
Javorové dřevo mě nikdy nezklame. Je plné překrásných barev, kterými procházejí magické tmavé linie. Člověk by musel strávit hodiny, aby si je všechny zapamatoval. Na těchto nádobách je vidět krásný kontrast mezi světlým lýkovým dřevem a tmavým středem. Kůra byla natolik paličatá, že přežila i soustružení uzounké stěny a ani kousek z ní neodpadl.
